It’s Coming…

stay-tuned

After years of silence and hiatus, Lisa and I are thrilled to be returning to Fiction Fridays!

*Woot woot!*

I know I can safely speak for her when I say that writing our pieces of flash fiction has always been such a fun side project for the two of us, a great way to stretch those writing muscles and to jump into stories or ideas that perhaps we were afraid to expand upon until we actually wrote them down – and loved them!

We are starting slow, just to make sure we can really give it the care it needs as we get back into the swing of things. You well get one story from each of us (2 stories total) a month for the time being. My first will post on January 12th. Lisa’s will post January 26.

Join us! Maybe you have a hankering to try your hand at something short and creative. Share it with us!

We can’t wait to see what awesome, creative things we can explore together! 🙂

Independence Day by Lisa

I snap my suitcase shut. It’s a classy vintage number—maybe I should have thought about how much space it’d take up in my dorm room when I saw it at the thrift shop, but I couldn’t help myself. It was so pretty.

I couldn’t be more excited about getting out of this town. Don’t get me wrong. It’s not a bad town. It’s just suffocatingly small. And the only person who made living here worth it left three years ago. Not that Kyle Landry ever really saw me that way, anyhow. I got into a good college on the coast and other than holidays, I’ll never have to look back.

A knock comes at the door and my mom pokes her head in. “Just about ready? It’s a long drive, you know.”

An unexpected tear pricks my eyes, but it’s gone in a second. It’s just because Mom is trying so hard to be strong. If she was really so nonchalant, I would be too.

“Yeah, I know. I’ll be there in a sec.”

Most of the car is packed. Pillows, comforter, a box of books and another of knickknacks I didn’t think I could live without. The truth is, I’m not taking too much. This is little girl stuff, a lot of it. Time for something new. A whole new life, far away from here. Then again, my best friend Sheila is coming with me, so that takes up some space.

I lug my suitcase downstairs, and there’s a knock at the front door. Has to be Sheila.

I flick my messy strands of hair out of my face and throw the door open—and Kyle Landry is standing there, his eyes lighting up until he sees my suitcase. My suitcase drops. So does my heart.

A New Year, A New Us

So, loyal readers, as you can see, Hollow Tree has undergone some changes — just as we promised.

Lisa and I put some thought into it and we realized that though we loved our original purpose for Hollow Tree, real life can often put a damper on the best laid plans.

But fear not! We are nowhere near done with this place. Instead, we’ve decided to tweak its purpose, just enough to keep it interesting, but not too much to make it something altogether new.

Check out our new mission statement and join us on a new, exciting journey as we take on something we’ve never done before…

Lisa and Isabelle have been writing partners for years, playing sounding board and cheerleader for each other.  Their tastes are similar while their styles are unquestionably different.  One thing they’re both passionate about, though, is YA Fantasy and paranormal.

This blog is a writing challenge for us, and a treasure of free reads for you.  Sometimes book reviews and interviews will be thrown in as well, but the main focus will be on sharing one short story per week, either by Lisa or Isabelle.

Our intent is to find and share new worlds, just a step beyond our own.  To follow Alice down the rabbit hole, take the second star to the right and step through that dresser drawer… only we’ve been all those places before.  And there are many, many more waiting to be found if we know where to look.  It’s those little entrances that we seek out here, a glassy pond, a locked door, a hollow tree…
